Academic Head's Welcome
Matcheri S Keshavan, MD Stanley Cobb Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Dear Applicants,
Thank you for your interest in training in psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). It is my pleasure to welcome you to the BIDMC Harvard Psychiatry Residency Training Program.
There has never been a better time to become a psychiatrist. Our goal is to help aspiring psychiatry trainees pursue successful careers in clinical care, education and research. Our residency program is affiliated with Harvard Medical School, one of the preeminent departments of psychiatry in the world. We are proud to offer a training program with rich and diverse opportunities. You will learn in an outstanding academic environment at BIDMC and Massachusetts Mental Health Center as part of an innovative, cutting-edge, and personalized clinical educational experience. Our philosophy has been that the best in research and training go hand in hand with the best in clinical care.
Psychiatry at BIDMC is at the cutting-edge of the field, including research into developing evidence-based interventions in the psychotherapies, psychopharmacology, and neuro-modulation. Our faculty are leaders in research and education, and are involved in translational studies to understand the neurobiological basis of psychiatric and substance use disorders, neuropsychiatry, population health, implementation science, digital psychiatry, and early intervention in serious mental illnesses. They are dedicated to building a scholarly and well-rounded psychiatry training experience by integrating both biological and psychosocial viewpoints in an extremely collaborative environment.
We welcome all of our residents to bring their own particular strengths and interests, to join our BIDMC family in their own ways, and, with our help, to attain their individual goals. Starting early in training, our residents are able to pursue their own scholarly interest with mentorship provided by our dedicated faculty.
Throughout my own career, I have been dedicated to education and mentoring as a critical part of the formative years of psychiatry training. I look forward to working with you and, and along with our BIDMC faculty, to take part in shaping your career in this exciting field.
Best wishes.
